REQUIREMENTS

Learning Danish with KISS is for people to whom it is important to learn a very good Danish. The KISS course is not for everyone. Our course is generally considered the toughest in the country - but also the one with the best results. We will be demanding a lot of you, but we will also deliver the results.

To follow the course, you must have had at least 10 years of school, preferably more, and be quite good at English.

COURSE STRUCTURE

Duration: The KISS Program is not only the best – it is also the shortest in the country.

  • There are 10 KISS levels (= the 5 official Modules) leading up to the official Danish Test 3 (Prøve i Dansk 3, PD3), arranged by the Ministry of Education. In our morning classes this program takes 8-9 months, in our evening classes it takes 11-12 months.

  • A 6th module leads to Studieprøven, which is required for admittance to universities etc.

  • Each of the 10 KISS levels has 9 meetings.

  • In a morning class (3 meetings a week), one KISS level takes 3 weeks.

  • In an evening class (2 meetings a week), one KISS level takes 4½ weeks.

  • You will have about 3 hours of homework before each meeting. Each meeting has spoken and written tests. Please note that if you are not following the planned progression, your teacher will ask you to repeat the level.

Group size: The number of students in our groups is, usually, between 5 and 14.

The content of the lessons: We basically follow the program as set up by the Ministry of Education for DU3 (Danish Education 3 - for students with a certain educational background, min. 10-12 years). We just do it faster and - we believe - better, especially in terms of the Danish pronunciation.

We do not offer online courses.

PAYMENT

Companies and municipalities pay the normal price per module (= 2 levels): kr. 15000.

For private people who must pay out of their own pocket (without a refund from their employer) we offer a discount:  Levels 1 and 2 cost 4000 kr. each. Levels 3 to 10 cost 5000 kr. each.

With this discount, you register and pay for one KISS Level (kr. 4000 or 5000) at a time.

When you continue to the next level, you must pay on the day you finish your present level. We need to know the exact number of students in the next level, and you reserve your place by paying. There may be waiting lists.

The discount for private people implies that if you have to repeat a class (a level), you'll have to pay again. This is not the case if a kommune or a company is paying, as the normal price includes the right to repeat parts of the program for free.

Maybe your municipality/kommune will pay for you at KISS, depending on several things, first in which kommune you are staying. For example, Københavns Kommune and Frederiksberg Kommune will not pay for you at KISS because KISS is (since 2007) a private school and they have contracts with some of the official sprogcentre.

STARTING AT A HIGHER LEVEL

Maybe you have taken Danish lessons at another school - as most of our students have.

However, your Danish pronunciation must be VERY good to skip the first level at KISS. For example, you must master the Danish "glottal stop" which the other schools do not teach - because they don’t know how to.

We often have students in our Level 1 classes who have already passed the PD3 exam at another school. The Danish they have learned does not work well enough for them. Usually, it is their pronunciation.

When they start from Level 1 with KISS, they are ALWAYS very happy with what we are giving them, and they are never bored. - On the contrary, they must fight with the wrong language habits which they have acquired before coming to KISS - whereas students who are real beginners come with fresh ears.

So, unless your pronunciation is already very good, you should start at Level 1. In principle, you can after that jump to a higher level, if your teacher agrees. However, nobody ever asks for that. They all realize how much there is to learn.

At the other schools, students pass up through the modules reasonably easily. This has, among other things, to do with the financial conditions in the school's contract with their commune:  the school gets paid every time a student passes to the next level. This is a system which tends to set quantity before quality.
